“Keep Your Hands Off Her” by Junior Kimbrough
You’ve probably heard The Black Keys cover this song on their Chulahoma record. And you may remember what I said the other day about how Junior Kimbrough’s recording career was very catch-as-catch-can. Take this album, Do the Rump! It’s one of the few records I unhesitatingly recommend to absolutely anyone, but it’s worth mentioning that this LP was recorded for the University of Memphis for reasons more academic than commercial, much like those Lomax field recordings for the Smithsonian. It makes you wonder how many brilliant musicians fly under the radar of the music industry.
